To catapult my Miata into wagon levels of practicality. And finally started playing around with my phone camera in manual mode. So... Luggage rack. Yay or neigh?

Yes! It perfectly matches my wheels too. Well. When they’re clean......

I approve of the luggage rack. I’ve been looking for ways to pack more gear into my NA for road trips, and I might invest in one of these. Where did you get it from?

While I understand the practicality of a luggage rack, I have a pretty severe hatred of the aesthetics.

Very yea. I have been interested in ideas like this since I started considering a Miata of my own.

Raceland. And before you recoil in horror, let me just say it’s a very high quality item. Nothing like their springs... Bit pricey at 149.99, but it comes with mounting hardware for both NA and NB, and leaves no permanent markings on the car.

Picked it up for a month long road trip coming up soon, I’ll post up more when I get back!

Join the club! I’ve got some cool extra parts just taking up space......

I’ll be adding a big waterproof bag on top, and possibly a hidden bike lock under the bag for a bit of extra security.

I’m 50/50. Eventually planning on having it anodized to match my rollbar. Hoping that will make it a bit more... Idk, just better looking?

It’s being given to the owners son eventually. I did get to drive it, but wasn’t really that exciting

Yay, but get ride of the bungie cords and learn to tie a taunt line hitch and a clove hitch.

I think it looks pretty good. I like cars that seem “practical” while being fun.

I’ll look those up! I like bungies because I can use them with my tent too. With minimal effort haha

Don’t worry. The taunt line hitch will take care of all you’re bungie needs!

Miata trunks are just so flimsy though.

Are they..? Seems pretty rock solid to me, although the extra weight of the rack makes the trunk slam pretty hard. Time for hydraulic struts!

I came here to say this. After doing the body work on my trunk I estimated the sheet metal gauge they used was somewhere between reynolds wrap and disposable pie tin.

I thought your photos looked very familiar. I have the same one, and I love it. The rack is a terrific way to transport items just a little too big to fit in the trunk.

I regularly carry a pop-up canopy to autocross events on mine, and have also carried a medium sized cooler. It fits a bag of wood pellets perfectly as well.

Since the rack only takes a few minutes to install, I keep it hanging in my garage and throw it on whenever I need it.

I think the rack recommends a 50 pound cargo limit. It’s not like you want to put hundreds of pounds on the back of a Miata anyway. Where the rack really shines is for those items that aren’t very heavy, but just too large to fit inside the trunk.

Eventually planning on having it anodized to match my rollbar.

I think anodizing is only an option for aluminum. Powder coat or paint might work if the chrome is sanded down a bit first. I would like to go black with mine, because I’m not a huge fan of chrome.

The nice thing about this rack being easy to take on and off is that you don’t have to leave it on the car when you aren’t using it. That helps greatly for those who don’t care for the aesthetics so much.

The more practical it is the more you’ll use it the happier you’ll be.
